Synopsis

The moon has been reduced to a permanent crescent. The creature responsible — a tentacled yellow entity moving at Mach 20 — has taken a position as homeroom teacher for Class 3-E at Kunugigaoka Junior High and told the government: you have one year. If his students can kill him before graduation, the earth is saved. If they can't, he'll destroy it next March. Class 3-E is the school's dumping ground for underachievers — exactly the kind of students the educational system has decided aren't worth full investment. Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Yusei Matsui) is 185 chapters, complete, in Weekly Shonen Jump. It uses an insane premise to deliver a genuinely moving story about education, worth, and what it means to believe in students other people gave up on. The finale is legitimately one of shonen's best. The anime (Lerche) ran 2 seasons.
