Synopsis
There is one law of alchemy that cannot be negotiated: equivalent exchange. You cannot gain something without giving something of equal value. Edward and Alphonse Elric broke that law when they tried to resurrect their dead mother, and the price was staggering — Ed lost his left leg, Al lost his entire body. Ed sacrificed his right arm to bind his brother's soul to a suit of armor. Now Ed wears prosthetics of steel and they walk a country searching for the Philosopher's Stone that might give Al his body back. What they find instead is a conspiracy that reaches to the highest levels of the Amestrian military, a truth about the entire alchemical system, and a confrontation with a being who consumed an entire civilization to become something that should not exist. Fullmetal Alchemist is a complete manga that is, without genuine argument, one of the greatest long-form narratives the medium has produced.
